Fire Services Museum Visit – East Melbourne Sunday 27 August @ 10.30am

The response to this particular outing has been somewhat underwhelming but I would really encourage you to think about coming along. This is a fabulous opportunity to learn about the history of our fire-fighting services since the MFB was formed in 1891 in the very building which now houses the museum.
YOU DON’T REALISE JUST WHAT AN INCREDIBLE JOB OUR FIRE-FIGHTERS DO TO PROTECT OUR LIVES AND PROPERTY; THAT IS UNTIL YOU NEED THEM!
They do much, much more than put out fires. The MFB responds to around 36,000 calls a year to deliver a wide range of emergency services which include:
* Hazardous incidents * Automatic alarm response * Road accident rescue * Emergency medical response * Urban search and rescue * Marine response
PARKING
For those who wish to attend, you can park at the Melbourne Museum/Exhibition Buildings Car Park in Nicholson Street ALL DAY Sunday for $17.00. It is only a short walk to the museum from there. Trams run just outside if you prefer.
THE MUSEUM
The Fire Services Museum of Victoria is an organisation dedicated to the preservation and showcasing of fire-fighting memorabilia from Victoria, Australia and overseas. It boasts one of the largest collections of fire-fighting memorabilia, with it being located in one of its prized exhibits; the original headquarters of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) on the corner of Gisborne Street and Victoria Parade, East Melbourne.
Today the museum is run completely by volunteers, each with a unique background with the fire services, some being former and current members of the MFB, Country Fire Authority (CFA) and many other fire-related agencies.
Entry to the museum is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors. You can purchase gifts on site if you wish.
LUNCH
THE IMPERIAL HOTEL on the corner of Spring and Bourke Streets is a short walk from the museum. It is the 3rd oldest pub in Melbourne and boasts the best pub food in the CBD. It offers a menu to suit all tastes and is very reasonably priced.
If you would like to come along to see something totally different, I look forward to seeing you there. I will need to make bookings so _PLEASE _email Val Gibson at vsgmjk@bigpond.com or call 9728 3096 by _MONDAY 21 AUGUST.
