Here are the cars that entered this year’s virtual French Car Festival Concours. Results published in December 2021 Torque magazine.
THE CARS
David Jenkins – 1975 Peugeot 504
Our 504 was purchased in July 2007 from De Maria Motors in Cobram. The original owner, a country doctor had purchased the car new in Melbourne. The car is original except for the Momo steering wheel, 505 alloy wheels and 504 Ti tachometer. The paint has been seen to from time to time as required and the rear shows evidence of contact with a small but solid tree in my drive way several years ago. Numerous components have been replaced over the years and a full service is carried out annually. Despite a couple of indiscretions over the years “Hercule” has proven to be most reliable. After 4 months of lockdown the car started first time and the run the our local servo was a revalation. Total mileage is now 109,000 km.
Peter Brien – 2002 Peugeot 306 cabriolet
It’s done 234,000 k’s. I have had it for 2 years. Bought unseen at an online auction. Drove it 250 kilometres home without a hitch. Took it in for a roadworthy. It needed 2 windscreen wipers. I decided to service it and put in a new timing belt and it has run fine ever since. Touch wood! Fun car to drive in sunny NE Victoria. I would like to sort out the electrics and hydraulics of the roof but I can open it manually so not a great problem.
Glenn Vagg – 1955 Peugeot 203C5 Wagon
I purchased this vehicle some years ago from Queensland with most of the restoration work carried out, I have made some improvements since it came into my care. I really wanted a wagon as it is one of the vehicles that my grandfather had back in the day. The colour of the wagon really sets off its nice lines.
John Vagg – 1955 Peugeot 203C
I purchased this car in late 1993, carried out a full restoration on the vehicle, and then have carried out other improvements and modifications over the years. It has attended various car club events and runs, including the Redex Reruns and the car is a great pleasure to drive.
Michael Peck – 1992 Peugeot 205 GTi
I found the vehicle in September 2018 in a garage nearby to me on the Bellarine Peninsula unloved and unused for 8 Years. I have had most of the exterior repainted and imported complete new seat trims from France. Much has been done mechanically but nothing major. Have fitted a full Milltek stainless steel exhaust system. Still got some minor things to go !! I Love it !!
Tim Farmilo – 1989 Peugeot 405 Mi16
Acquired in 2007 from Brendan Flood who works Regan Motors. Brendan had owned the vehicle for 10 years. It has full leather upholstery and factory sunroof. The Mi16 has travelled 496,000 klms on the original motor and has never been overhauled and is still as strong as ever.
Tim Farmilo – 1991 Peugeot 205 GTi
After a couple of owners in Melbourne, this vehicle ended up in Sydney which is where I purchased it. The previous owner had spared no expense having the engine and mechanicals rebuilt by Huw Moore from Moriarty Motorsport. The bodywork, however, was in very poor condition. Over the last nine months it has undergone a windscreen out bare metal respray, the work being done by Travis Mann of Bayside Panels.
Tim Farmilo – 2001 Peugeot 306 Cabriolet
Acquired in 2017 as the third owner. I found this vehicle in Newcastle after a 12 month search for a model which had to have the following features: Sahara Yellow in colour, manual transmission, leather upholstery and low kilometers. Currently has 87,000 klms on the clock.
Tim Farmilo – 1979 Peugeot 504
Previously owned by former club member Russell Patterson, I bought the 504 in August 2014 after seeing it on Car Sales when on holiday in New York. The car has been a concours winner on numerous occasions. The car was featured in an article on the 504 in the April 2015 edition of Unique Cars.
Nola Watson – 2019 Peugeot 308 GT
This was a Peugeot Australia executive’s car. We bought it at City Peugeot on 3 May this year, with 8,000km on the clock.
Toni Daley – 2011 Peugeot RCZ
I have had my RCZ since new in 2011 and enjoy driving my first and only Peugeot.
Philippe Bonne – Peugeot 403
David Cavanagh – 1959 Peugeot 403
Car is Norman. I’ve owned Norman for about 7 years and been slowly doing him up.
Rodney Piggott – 1969 Peugeot 404
Owned since 1997. Stored in Sydney Motor Museum in Harris St Sydney for 6 years. Unrestored original condition. Has Irish plates from the 1993 London to Sydney 404 driven by Paddy McClintock.
Steve Odell – 2013 Peugeot Expert 120
Purchased new to replace a 406 wagon which had become too small to carry 3 giant breed dogs, and these days, that’s all it does. Brilliantly. Nimble, quick, economical, for a van. Great 6 speed auto, and more than suitable for long interstate trips. Lives in the country, on dirt roads and driveways, and is a regular tow vehicle for a 500 litre trailer mounted diesel tanker, providing fuel to machines on the Yarra Valley Railway restoration project currently in progress.
Richard Marken – 1976 Peugeot 404 Ute
Originally imported from South Africa, I bought the ute in Brisbane from its second owner in 1996 as a restoration project. Over the next 22 years I re-manufactured the 404 styleside ute to be a one of a kind vehicle, with independent rear suspension, 505 modified front suspension, 4 wheel disc brakes – 6 pistons on the front, it is a joy to travel in. Air-conditioned, the extra cabin space and 605 electric seats add to the comfort factor and the 100 litre fuel tank takes you a long way.
Allan Horsley – 1956 Peugeot 203C
Acquired from a NSW Club member in a partially restored state and completed an extensive restoration. Its attraction was that the car spent most of its life in Deniliquin in a very dry climate and had no rust in the sills. It has a warm 403 motor and travels well. I have just fitted a set of leather reupholstered front seats from my original 203C, a Victorian assembled car compared with the vinyl fixed back seats in a NSW assembled car.
Allan Horsley – 1978 Peugeot 604
Acquired in 1981, just off lease, in good order and was used as a family car for a short time until I had a work car. It then became a concours car. I used to compete intensely with Cedric Koelmeyer for the annual trophy. It has a few modifications to improve starting and performance, it is basically standard and is a tremendous cruising car.
Allan Horsley – 1966 Peugeot 404 cabriolet
This beautiful car was purchased from Gordon Miller in 2007 not long before he passed away. Gordon acquired the car from the USA as a rust bucket and lovingly carried out a full bottom up restoration. In 2007 it was basically a new car, in fact some would say better than new. I have made a few improvements to the car but it is maintained within an inch of its life.
Rob Cherry – 1952 Peugeot 203
The car well know because of its previous owner and his choice of extravagant car restoration and unusual colour choice. Initial mechanical work was by Ivan Washington but I have removed the motor a couple of times while I have owned it looking for more power. I have owned it for six years now.
Jeff Gill – 1970 Peugeot 504
Acquired in 1992 as a $300 standard 1800cc to enter club events and rallies. After 5 years finally worked out it was too good to stick into a bank at speed so one thing lead to another with this result – still my favourite Pug.
Julian Bradstreet – 1973 Peugeot 504 cabriolet
Bought 10 years ago sight unseen from UK. It was fully restored 10 years before that from a rusty state with many new panels and a large history of receipts.
Barry Mouritz – 1962 Peugeot 403 cabriolet
The cabriolet is a conversion from a sedan which was completed last year and is as close to original as possible.
Jim Moody – 1989 Peugeot 205 GTi
Purchased as a restoration project 5 years ago.
Mike Jolley – 1969 Peugeot 404
Purchased in 2001 in Wangaratta, sold to a friend in 2013, bought back in 2020 in as good or better condition than before.
Paul Watson – Peugeot 403
The car was given to me in 1996 and I have made improvements gradually over the years. I love driving it.
Peter Cusworth – 1972 Peugeot 204
Originally imported from Malaysia, I’ve owned the car since around 1994. Used the car for historic rallies in the 90s and 00s. Replaced the worn out original 1127cc motor with a 1290cc 304 and more recently have fitted a 1472cc 305 motor.
