Saturday’s Voyage Petit is a drive to an unusual restaurant at Aireys Inlet, on the beautiful Great Ocean Road.
Meet at 9.30 at the McDonald’s just off the Princes Freeway, Laverton (Extit 14). About 10am head west down the freeway, take the Geelong bypass and head for Anglesea (not Torquay).
The town after Anglesea is Aireys Inlet, and you will see the Split Point lighthouse on the headland as you approach the town.
Our lunch booking is for NOON, but there might even be time to have a look at the impressive lighthouse on the way. Lunch is at Freestone’s Roadhouse, on the right-hand side just after the lighthouse turn-off. You will see the outline of a Corvette on the facade of the restaurant, which is reached by walking to the back of the building. (The malt shop at the front is fun but they don’t do lunch.) We have asked for a guided tour of the owner’s impressive car collection before lunch.
The restaurant looks over the peaceful river and the lunch menu has items such as steak burgers, hamburgers, vegie burgers, club sandwich and cobb salad. Kids are catered for too.
So come along and have a nice drive and a fun meal, but please let me know by Friday if you are coming, as we have to give them numbers in advance. Paul Watson, 0427 203 206
