A quick progress report on how Mitch and the Australian Team are going in the Men’s Under-19 World Floorball Championship. After a week’s training camp in Eerikkila (Finland), where the boys played together as a team for the first time, we moved to Helsingborg for the championships. The first match was on Wednesday, against Estonia; our boys were closely matched against them, but the other team managed to get more balls in the net; the 8-3 scoreline was not representative of the close match. Following the training, the coach had moved Mitch from defence to a forward position; he didn’t disappoint, scoring a goal 42 seconds from the end of the match. You can watch the match and see Mitch score on YouTube: [1]. The team then played Japan on Wednesday and became the first Australian Men’s U19 WFC team ever to win a match at the World Championships. Another close match, but our boys were generally better than the Japanese and, after dropping a goal behind, gradually moved ahead to win 9-6 (coincidentally exactly reversing the score from the previous WFC match with Japan). Last Minute Mitch did it again with a goal just two seconds from time! Watch this match at [2]. Today we are up against pool favourites Germany; our boys are not expected to win, but will put up a good show and do their best to embarrass the top team in our group. This match will appear on YouTube shortly after it finishes, so google it or look for the link on our blog: https://mitchwfc.wordpress.com/ [3].
