TARGA NEW ZEALAND was formed in 1995 with an initial entry of 74 cars which has grown to more than 200 vehicles. While our origins are from Targa Florio, common with that of Targa Tasmania, our event structure is different as we race each special stage against the clock traveling over 2,500kms across the North Island of New Zealand, all within 6 days. We also cater for a much wider group of motoring enthusiast from Classic Touring through to the full Competition vehicles and everything in between. TARGA NEW ZEALAND offers two elements within the event. The competition section for those with rally cars keen to race against the clock, and the Targa Tour, A non-competitive tour aimed at owners of exotic and exciting motor cars who wish to drive these vehicles at speed on closed public roads, the way manufacturers intended. TARGA NEW ZEALAND is known as _“THE ULTIMATE ROAD RACE”_ , where all participants travel the same route including the “closed road sections” around back country roads visiting some of New Zealand’s best kept secrets. With a traveling road show of more than $25 Million of vehicles and approximately 2,000 people, we stop overnight in major centres who offer exquisite hospitality and an enjoyable experience. The entire route is based on tarmac as this appeals to a much wider range of exotic, classic and modern super cars. We make it easy by offering a variety of package deals which can include return shipping, accommodation, meals and we even have a range of lease vehicles should you not want to ship your favourite steed. TARGA NZ’S value is phenomenal with extremely compact touring verses closed road ratios of less than two to one, hitting a world first 1000kms of special stage this year and only 1400kms of touring.
