Planning is complete for a fabulous long weekend in the High Country where Spring has created a magnificent landscape. * SATURDAY, the Oxley Farmers’ Market (a real one) will be in full swing, where lots of local produce and wares will be on offer. As well, the Oxley cafes and specialty shops will provide a great opportunity for the ladies to blister their plastic. Lots of food options will be available as well as the BROWN BROS Cellar, for wine tasting and food. For those driving up on Saturday the Oxley market is on the Snow Road, about 2.5 hours drive from Melbourne. * SUNDAY, the shoppers’ day, with a drive via the historic town of Stanley and its famous gourmet pub, then Mt Stanley and onto Beechworth to experience a great array of shops, cafes and historic sites. The homeward journey through Yackandandah with its own specialty shops will cap off a great day. * MONDAY, a drive to Mt Buffalo with a break at the Dingo Dell cafe, followed by a walk out to The Horn is planned. Lunch will follow at venues in either Porepunkah or Bright or at the Red Stag Deer Farm in Eurobin with its outstanding views of the mountains. Bright has its own attractions with the local CRAFT BREWERY offering most enjoyable thirst quenchers along with lunch. For the transport buffs the Historical Museum has a great selection of rail and local history. * TUESDAY, offers an alternative drive home via Whitfield and Mansfield avoiding the Hume Freeway. For others who stay on, it offers a chance to drive over the Tawonga Gap and onto Mt Beauty, Tawonga and Kancoona.
