The focus model for the 7 August meeting will be 505 so get out with the bucket and sponge and bring your example along for all to see. Traffic cones will be placed around the clubroom entrance and the 505s can be displayed in these spaces. We will follow the formal proceedings with a presentation/guest speaker on the L2P program here in Victoria. The program is directed toward “under- privileged” teenagers who do not have within their family the capacity to obtain the 120 hours necessary to go for their driving test. There are strict guidelines to qualify. The program is sponsored by the government through the TAC, with VicRoads being the auspice body. Our guest speaker is Greg Ryan from VicRoads who is a member of the Wonthaggi/ Bass Coast Steering Committee. The program was initiated by the government due to the significant amount of road deaths and injuries over represented by young drivers immediately after obtaining their “P” plates. There are programs right across the state and now interstate a well. PCCV has several of our members who act as “mentors” within the program and spend considerable time in the passenger seat of program cars, vehicles which do not have dual controls. As a “mentor” not all advice is directly related to driver training, since many of the participants do not have a “normal” type of home environment. * The September meeting focus model will be the 306 and the guest speaker will lead a discussion on prostate cancer and support this with a presentation.
