Once again, a Peugeot has been very favourably reviewed in The Age Drive section.
This time it’s the front-wheel-drive 5008 Allure, which gets very positivecomments in the “Whar car should I buy?” column, where it is up against the Honda CR-V VTi-L 2WD and Skoda Kodiaq 132TSI 4×4. This follows praise in recent weeks for the 3008 and the 308 (in which case the summary was “Buy it”.
The review, by Cameron McGavin, praises the 5008’s safety technology, emergency braking, user-friendly cabin, sunblinds, folding rear seats, powerful 121kW 1.6-liitre turbo-petrol engine, 7.0L/100km economy, five-year warranty and fixed-price servicing. Criticisms are few: it costs $4000 more than the Honda, it “isn’t the quietest” medium 5+2, needs premium fuel, and the iCockpit with high dash and “tiny steering wheel” isn’t to all tastes.
The column is supposed to be answering the “dilemma” of a woman named Sam petrol SUV with seven seats to replace her old Golf wagon. According to the article, Sam’s personal choice is the Skoda. But the recommendation from Drive concludes that the 5008 “is that little bit more friendly and likeable while matching it on most other key fronts. If Sam needed a reason not to buy the Skoda, this family-friendly Frenchie would be one.”
Well done Peugeot Citroen Australia!
