60th Anniversary Redex Rerun
14 May 2013 @ 9:00 am - 8 June 2013 @ 5:00 pm
The 60th Anniversary Redex Rerun starts from Maitland on Tuesday 14 May. The Rerun is celebrating the Peugeot 203 victory in the original 1953 event with the Rerun field comprising mostly Peugeot 203s and 403s.
The spectacular win by Ken Tubman and John Marshall’s 203 in the 1953 Redex Trial put Peugeot on the motoring map in Australia and established the marque’s excellent reputation in this country.
On Monday 13th May there will be a vehicle display at Maitland Park. The Rerun starts from Maitland Airport the following morning from 7.30, passing through Inverell, Dalby, Bundaberg, Emerald, then Longreach, Winton, Mt Isa and Tennant Creek. The route then heads north to Darwin for one of the five rest days planned, and then heads south to Alice Springs and then takes a detour to Yulara on the way to Coober Pedy. From here to Port Augusta, then across South Australia and Victoria to Shepparton and Albury, then Canberra, finishing at Parramatta. All up the rerun covers 10,000km over a period of 4 weeks.
A highlight for the last day will be the famous “horror section” near Goulburn, which was a deciding moment in the 1953 event.
