Como Gardens visit
This is a chance to visit a beautiful garden property and see the magnificent car collection of George Hetrel.
For us the highlight will be George’s 1903 Peugeot, but other attractions are an 1896 Benz with tiller steering, a Talbot Lago racing car, a Bugatti and the fabulous Mercedes 540SSK, among many others. The ephemera in George’s “shed” is brilliant, ranging from oil company signs to a large-scale model aircraft.
George has promised to have his miniature railway in operation, so bring the kids and grandkids along.
Among many other shrubs and trees, the garden contains two collections (prunus and magnolia) of plants registered with the Garden Plant Conservation Association of Australia.
Como Gardens is at 79 Basin-Olinda Road, The Basin (Melway 65, H7) and the gates will be open at 10am. Please park in the car park on the Melbourne side.
Entry is by gold coin donation, which will benefit the St John Ambulance and the SES.
