SUMMARY:George Woods Rally
DESCRIPTION:This is the 42nd anniversary of the George Woods Rally\, which is run in memory of PCCV member George Woods\, who competed regularly in a 403 and then a 404. \nThis year\, remembering Neil Beddoe and the years he worked as the Safety Officer for this event\, there will be a special award for the first Peugeot competitor in the event. This will be the Neil Beddoe Memorial Award.  \nNeil will be missed by members of the directing team who worked alongside him. He will be missed by the officials and competitors of the event who knew Neil had considered their safety and ensured adherence to all safety requirements for the rally.  \nWe are hoping to see many Peugeots competing for this special award. If you have a suitable Peugeot\, be sure to enter.  \nThe event will start and finish in Powelltown. It is a Regularity Rally which means the maximin speed on any competitive section must not exceed 110Km/h. There will be a daylight division and a night division.  \nRetired rally competitors\, new competitors and juniors\, are all welcome to compete in this event. We would like to see the Peugeots out in full force\, flying the flag in memory of Neil. \nIf you are new to rallying or have any questions please contact the Clerk of Course\, Glad Fish\, gladfish@netspace.net.au or 0410148058. Supplementary Regulations and entry forms will be available on www.hra.org.au and www.vicrally.com.au

SUMMARY:Christmas barbecue at Phillip Island
DESCRIPTION:As members will know\, we lost our good friend Neil Beddoe this year. \nFor most of the past two decades Neil has been our host at the annual BYO Christmas barbecue\, at his home at Cowes. \nNow Neil’s son\, Nigel\, wants to keep the tradition going\, for this year at least. \nAll members and their families are invited and if you haven’t been there before you should go\, because we don’t know whether this event will be held in the future. \nAs well as enjoying a barbecue lunch while sitting under shady trees\, you will have a chance to admire the beautiful gardens and look over the amazing collection of Peugeots that Neil left behind. \nArrive from noon. The address is 128 McKenzie Road\, Cowes\, Melway 634\, B3. \nRemember to bring your food and drink\, some chairs and a hat. \nWe look forward to seeing you there.

SUMMARY:December Club Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The December meeting will be a social event and everyone is invited to come along and enjoy some Christmas cheer. \nOur guest speaker will be Blair Healy\, who has been for club meeting before but circumstances have always intervened and prevented his appearance. \nWith an ounce of luck\, it will be different this time. \nBlair and his wife Mary competed in the 2016 Incas Rally in a 404 named Pedro. \nThe rally covered 8500km of the most stunning parts of Argentina\, Chile and Peru\, and averaged 55km of driving each day. \nThey finished third in the Classic category (less than two litres)\, behind two Porsches. \nPedro will be there\, and 404 owners are asked to bring their cars along not join the line-up. \nAs usual\, there will be a barbecue before the meeting and supper afterwards. \nIt’s been a while since we have gathered for a meeting at Chateau Peugeot\, so come along and catch up with your friends.

SUMMARY:French Car Festival – CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:I am sad to advise you that the PCCV Committee has reviewed the plans for the French Car Festival planned for 10th October. \nDue to the numbers involved and the very infectious nature of the delta Covid 19 virus\, we feel it unwise to hold the event this year and hope that next year will be more hospitable to us all. \nAs a consolation\, we plan to hold a photo competition\, so watch for details in September Torque.

SUMMARY:June Club Meeting – a 404 Night!
DESCRIPTION:Have you got a 404? Bring it along to the Club Meeting 4th June. Blair Healy is our guest speaker\, and he is bringing his 404 that has crossed the Andes. Let’s celebrate 404s! \nDon’t have a 404? Come along and look at the model that really established Peugeot in Australia. \nBlair Healy and his rugged 404 crossing the Andes. \nIn 2015 Blair Healy retired from engineering and was looking for a challenge. One of his friends had just completed the Peking to Paris endurance rally for classic and vintage cars. A similar rally was about to commence the following year in South America called the Inca’s Endurance Rally\, a rally of about 12\,000 kilometres through Argentina\, Chile and Peru. The rally would criss-cross the Andes through about 3 mountain passes over 4\,000 metres and take about 30 days. The rally would traverse some beautiful scenery and some very rough dirt tracks. \nBlair turned to his friend\, who advised to use a Sydney rally champion and car builder to look for a car that could perform competitively in any endurance rally. A number of vintage cars were proposed and the 1960s Peugeot 404 was the standout for the role. Blair also received some valuable advice from successful Peugeot rally man Bill Hamilton. Blair was not a Peugeot person\, but quickly became one as he assisted the car builder to strip down\, strengthen and rebuilt 3 x 404 Peugeots into a single vehicle to compete against 20 other comparable 2 litre class classic vehicles in the Incas Endurance Rally in late 2016. The trusty and reliable Peugeot 404\, aptly named “Pedro” came third in its class\, just behind 2 x early 1970s Porsche 911s! \nBlair will bring along his Peugeot 404 when he speaks at the June General Meeting and explain the modifications completed (Peugeot purists please prepare to cringe!) and why the car performed so well during the rally.
