SUMMARY:Charity run with Renault
DESCRIPTION:Charity run with Renault\,  Sunday 26 March \nWe are invited to a charity observation run to raise money for the flood victims.\nIt’s a combined run with the Renault Car Club of Victoria organised by David Cavanagh\, who is a member of both clubs. RCCV did a run for the fire victims and raised nearly $500\, so we are hoping to double that with both clubs taking part.\nThere are 50 questions and every wrong or missed question will cost you $1. It was set at 50 questions to make it easy for people to just donate $50 if they would rather not do the questions.\nMeeting place is at the McDonalds outbound on the Calder Freeway next door to Calder Raceway at 9am.  \nThe tour takes us through the Macedon Ranges and the finish is only an hour out of town so it’s an easy run for those from the other side of town.\nThe finish park has barbecue\, picnic facilities and toilets\, the town also has take-away food\, pubs and RSL. Also fuel and EV charging is available.\nNo need to book\, just turn up on the day. \nMark Judkins

SUMMARY:Mildura Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Bookings for the Mildura weekend next year are going well. \nThe event is being organised by enthusiastic local club members John Maher and Hans Van Der Most. \nMildura is 550km from Melbourne and 400km from Adelaide\, so it is expected most participants will travel to Mildura on the morning of Saturday 11 March and the afternoon will be free time to rest or take a look around at some of the local attractions. The plan is to have a paddleboat dinner cruise on the Saturday. \nSunday is the big club day with tentative events consisting of: \n9.30-11am: Peugeot Club display. \nNoon-1pm: Lunch at a local winery. \n1.30-3pm:  Tour of local private collection of 30-plus spectacular French cars. \n3.30-5.30pm: Drive to Wentworth to view junction of the Murray and Darling rivers\, Wentworth lock and weir and\, if time permits\, a tour of the Old Wentworth Gaol. \n7-9pm: Dinner at Mildura Golf Club Resort restaurant. \nMonday: travel home. \nAn optional additional activity for those interested in staying and extra day would be a 70km (140km return) trip to Pooncarie NSW for lunch at a historic outback pub. \nDiscounted accommodation has been arranged at Mildura Golf Club Resort for club members. \nContact Mildura Golf Resort to arrange your accommodation booking on (03) 5023 1147 or via: \nhttps://www.milduragolfresort.com.au/

And you can participate in the Saturday or the Sunday\, or both. Please advise via email paula.glenn@bigpond.com of your anticipated attendance to assist with meal bookings etc. \nWe will gather from 11am on the Saturday\, at the Vagg compound at 747 Midland Highway\, Mount Rowan\, where you will be able to have a catch up with friends and chat.  \nTo reach Mount Rowan from Melbourne follow the Western Freeway and take the third Ballarat exit (the Midland Highway\, A300)\, turning right towards Creswick. Then drive about 2km until you see the Peugeot flags on the left. This is a busy road\, so please take care. \nBYO lunch. There will be a BBQ available if you want to cook a snag or two\, and there will be prizes in a free raffle. Or have lunch on the way if it suits you better. \nIn the afternoon we hope to have a Shed visit or something else of interest to look at\, which will involve a drive through the surrounds\, and then afternoon tea. \nDinner on Saturday evening will be at Ballarat Golf Club at 7pm\, which always puts on a good meal. We always have a great time here. \nWe have booked nine rooms at the Bell Tower Inn (within walking distance of the Golf Club) at 1845 Sturt Street\, phone  5334 1600. I have booked eight Queen rooms @ $150 per night and one twin room @ $165 per night. The Reservation Number is 186032. \nOn Sunday morning it is planned that we will meet at the Vagg Compound for a chat and an explanation of the day’s activities particularly around the condition of roads and parking etc. This will include a leisurely drive to Beaufort where we will have lunch at the Beaufort Hotel and then on to club member Greg Park’s property to visit his Shed. Greg lives on a lovely bush block completely off the grid\, with lots of room for his Peugeot passion. \nWe look forward to seeing you and your Peugeot friends. \nPlease keep an eye on the PCCV Updates for any changes to our plan. \nPaula Vagg

SUMMARY:Bastille Day Lunch
DESCRIPTION:Once again\, we will be celebrating Bastille Day at the very French-themed Republic of Letters restaurant at 239 Whitehorse Road\, Balwyn\, near the Palace Cinema. \nLast year’s Bastille Day lunch was a great success\, with almost 30 people enjoying the French atmosphere. \nThe set-price menu will cover a choice of all sorts of French delights\, from French onion soup\, quiches\, French fries\, crepes to roast chicken and beef bourguignon. \nThe restaurant is licensed\, or there is a fee if you bring your own wine. \nThe one certainty about this year’s lunch is that we will be toasting the late Neil Beddoe\, who died just a couple of days after attending last year’s Bastille Day celebrations. \nTo reserve your place at the Republic of Letters\, call Colin Harris on 0432 302 414. Places are limited so bookings are essential. \nPS: If you are wondering about the name of the restaurant\, this is what Wikipedia has to say about it. “The Republic of Letters is the long-distance intellectual community in the late 17th and 18th centuries in Europe and the Americas. It fostered communication among the intellectuals of the Age of Enlightenment\, or philosophes as they were called in France.”

SUMMARY:July Club Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The July meeting will feature two guest speakers\, who both took part in this year’s Targa Tasmania\, which was abruptly cancelled after the death of a competitor on the second day. \nBlair Healy and his wife Mary competed in their 404\, Pedro\, entered in the time-speed-distance section of the event. \nThis meant they had a minimum speed of 30kmh and a maximum of 130. \n“We could keep up\, but just\,” he told Torque. \nThe open section has a maximum speed of 200kmh and no minimum. \nBlair\, who spoke to the December meeting last year\, came away from the shortened Targa with some controversial views on the way the event is run. \nWithout flagging what he might say\, it is obvious that Blair is concerned about the speeds some relatively inexperienced drivers from interstate are allowed to drive on Tasmania’s roads in autumn. \n“The road that accident happened on was a 14-15km mountain climb on a very narrow\, slippery road when it was raining\,” he said. “You need to be a very experienced driver.” \nSome of the roads never dry out. \n“The Tasmanians say you need to need to know the road because that climb was through a state forest with trees that overhung the road\, with moss on the road and it had been raining. I could feel that in the 404\, which is very stable. \n“They are very dangerous and the people who tend to come out on top are all Tasmanians.” \nThe crews had completed eight of the 32 Targa stages when it was called off. \nPedro will be at the July meeting for members to inspect. \nCallum O’Callaghan-Daft also took part in the 2022 Targa and he will also tell of his experiences in his 205. \nAs usual\, there will be a free barbecue before the meeting and supper afterwards. \nSo come along and catch up with your Peugeot friends. \n  \nMeetings are held on the first Friday of every month (except January) at the VDC Clubrooms\, Unit 8\, 41-49 Norcal Road\, Nunawading (Melway 48 G10)\, commencing at 8pm. Visitors are most welcome.
