The One-Two-Three Oh Forum

from Nick Wright and Peter Cusworth |
The 1, 2, 304 Register was
originally formed to find and record the details of 104, 204 and 304 models in
Australia. We thought while we were at it, we may as well extend that to include
all Peugeot front-wheel-drive models not sold by the factory in Australia. This
would then include the 305 and 309 models as well. Examples of all of these,
presumably privately imported models, exist in Australia. But how many are
there, where are they, and who owns them?
Well we think we have records on most of them, but there are always new cars
that come to our notice every now and then, and the ones we do know of,
sometimes change owners or condition.
Why a Register?
“Why start a register?” you may ask.
Some of the reasons include:
 | to keep track of these rare (in Australia) vehicles; |
 | to support each other in keeping them on the road; |
 | to pool resources and information about them; |
 | to share contacts re locating spare parts |
 | to provide those on the register with info on other similar cars in
Australia |
 | to locate parts in Europe and help with purchase and import to Australia. |
There are probably lots more things that as we as individual owners find
difficult which become easier with a group effort.
The register is basically a database for information of these cars in
Australia. There is no cost, and owners do not necessarily have to be a Peugeot
car club member. If you don’t want your personal details to be included on the
register, we would still like to know about your car for statistical purposes.
| You can add your car to the register by downloading the form
here, then print it, fill it in and send it to
the address on the form. It is in Adobe PDF format, so you will need the
Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it. |

Here is a summary of each of these models
The 204
| The 204 four-door sedan was first released in
March 1965. This was Peugeot’s first front-wheel-drive vehicle, fitted
with a transverse mounted all alloy over-head cam 1130 cc
motor/transmission unit. Fully independent suspension with front disc
brakes, four-speed gearbox, column or floor change. A Station Wagon,
Coupé and Cabriolet were later available as was models with diesel
motors. Examples of the Sedan, Wagon and Cabriolet are in Australia –
don’t know of any coupé. The 204 models were gradually phased out
during the 70’s. As usual with Peugeot, some body shapes were available
for longer than others. Cars were assembled in various locations outside
of France. Some Australian 204s were built in Malaysia, which explains why
they don’t have a heater! |

The 304
| Released in September 1969, the 304 was
basically a 204 with a redesigned grill and boot, fitted with a slightly
larger 1290 cc motor. Also available as a Station Wagon, Coupé or
Cabriolet. The 304 featured the familiar trapezoidal headlights of 70’s
Peugeots, but of course a slightly different dimension (504 lights don’t
fit!). The 204 and 304 wagons have exactly the same rear treatment –
same tailgate, tail-lights, bumpers etc. and were sold alongside each
other for most of the 70s. The 304 was in production until the end of the
70s when replaced by the 305. |

The 104
| First presented in 1972, the 104 shares nothing
with the 204/304 range. The all new vehicle first came with a 954 cc
transverse mounted motor, inclined to an amazing 72 degrees! A 2-door
coupé was also available, initially with a 1124 cc motor (apparently
shared with Renault 14 and Citroen LN models). Later the ZS coupé got a
1361cc, 72 bhp motor and a five-speed gearbox. An impressive power to
weight package – just ask Nick and Glad! We think their’s is the only
ZS in Australia. |

The 305
| First released in 1978 as a replacement for the 304, the 305
was a progression along the 204/304 line having the same 1290cc motor in
the base version. The 305GR came with a 1472cc motor producing 74 bhp,
with the 305S having more refined equipment producing 89bhp from its
1472cc motor. The 305 could be purchased as a Station Wagon or a Panel
Van. GLD and SRD 1548cc diesel motor versions of the 305 were also
available. A few of these models appear in Peugeot Car Club records, but
how many are there? |

The 309
| First released in 1985, the 309 as its model number
suggests, had an unusual heritage partly due to Peugeot’s takeover of
Chrysler Europe. It was available with a range of petrol and diesel
engines, some of which were also available in 205 and 405 models. The base
XL had a 1294cc motor, the XR a 1580cc motor, and the GTI had the same
1905 motor as the 205 GTI. We have seen one example of this model in
Australia, but the owner is no longer a member of PCCV. Can we track him
down? Are there any more? |
